The Schoodic area is a haven for those who love to walk or hike. From easy to challenging, there are numerous roads, paths, trails, and climbs with amazing scenic views through a wide variety of ecosystems. For directions, ask at member businesses.
Acadia National Park, Schoodic District – Stroll the park road, clamber on the rocks at Schoodic Point, walk the Ranger Road to the top of Schoodic Head, cross to Little Moose Island, hike the Sundew on the SERC campus, or take the Alder, Anvil, Schoodic Head or East trail to the top of Schoodic Head. www.nps.gove/acad
Frenchman Bay Conservancy – Baker Hill-Route 1 west and right on Punkinville Road for .1 mile, Tucker Mountain – Route 1 west to Long Cove Scenic Turnout-across the road of old Route 1, Little Tunk Lake – 4.7 miles on Route 183, Corea Health-Route 195 about .2 miles past telephone pole with large osprey nest. Donnell Pond Public Land – West on Route 1 and right on Route 183 for 4.2 miles – Cross Sunrise Trail for ATV & mountain biking-hiking trail that extends from Hancock to Pembroke about 80 miles – turn left for parking and trails that access Schoodic Mountain, Donnell Point, Black Mountain, Caribou Mountain, Tunk, Mountain and Catherine Mountain, Little Long Pond, Salmon Point – also accessible from Route 182 or the Black’s Woods Road between Franklin and Cherryfield – great loop for fall foliage. www.maine.gove/doc/parks
Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge – Hiking trails, a lighthouse, shorebirds, waterfowl, diverse animal and plant life and exceptional views. In Steuben, off US Route 1, take the Pigeon Hill Road to the end – approximately 7 miles. www.petitmanan.fws.gov

Acadia National Park, Schoodic District – the part road is an excellent ride with breathtaking scenic views, especially when used in conjunction with the free Island Explorer bus service throughout the summer.
Schoodic Peninsula – Outside of the park, the Schoodic Scenic Byway and local roads provide numerous opportunities to bike along the shore and to the area’s spectacular coastal villages and working harbors.
Downeast Sunrise Trail – The Downeast Sunrise Trail, a converted rail bed that runs from Washington Junction in Hancock to Ayers Junction in Pembroke, is open for public use. www.sunrisetrail.org
