The Monteux School and Music Festival was founded in 1943 by internationally renowned French-born
conductor Pierre Monteux (1875-1964) and his wife, Doris Hodgkins Monteux (1894-1984), as a
summer school for conductors and orchestra musicians in Hancock, inspired in part by Monteux’s
earlier conducting classes in France.
Monteux’s 78th season will open with a Festival Orchestra concert at Forest Studio in Hancock,
where social distancing can be easily and comfortably followed. Concert dates are as follows:
