This year’s festival features outdoor and virtual events and activities for adults\, children\, families and friends to explore Acadia in winter. \nOutdoor activities include a ski\, snowshoe\, or walk into the future of Schoodic Peninsula with Acadia National Park Superintendent Kevin Schneider and Schoodic Institute President and CEO Nick Fisichelli. Experience the magic of raku pottery with Schoodic Arts for All. Investigate animal tracks with Acadia National Park rangers\, and take a moss and lichen walk with Schoodic Institute Forest Ecology Director Peter Nelson. \nVirtual programs include a presentation by Acadia National Park rangers on Acadia’s Winter Ecology and a lecture on The Edge of Winter by Dr. Sarah Nelson\, Director of Research for the Appalachian Mountain Club\, who worked with collaborators to study 100 years of weather data and learn how the winter season is changing in Acadia and the surrounding region. Festival participants may also attend Nelson’s lecture in-person in Moore Auditorium\, and stay for dinner in Schooner Commons. \nWorkshops on campus include winter photography\, pine cone bird feeders\, needle-felting\, snow journaling with Karen Zimmerman\, and an iNaturalist citizen science workshop for the whole family. DESCRIPTION:September 24th from 5 to 6:30 PM \nMasonic Hall \n43 School Street \nWinter Harbor\, ME \n$9 Adult \n$5 Child \nOn any given day\, our office receives at least three to four calls from inquiring visitors to Hancock and\nWashington Counties\, and they always start off with a question about our scenic byways. Hancock\nCounty is home to two National Scenic Byways\, The Acadia All American Road\, and Schoodic National\nScenic Byway. The significance of having even one national designation\, but two\, is in the economic\nbenefits derived from tourism. A scenic byway is a draw\, a national scenic byway is an electromagnet for\nvisitors to our region. To get a national designation\, the byway must go through a national application\nand vetting process. Which requires a dedicated volunteer committee. And the Schoodic National Scenic\nByway Committee is dedicated to maintaining and improving the assets and amenities along this great\nstretch of Downeast\, Maine. \n  \nOne of the biggest attractions along the Schoodic National Scenic Byway are the Kids Quest Adventures.\nThese sites host various thematic based experiences related to the natural environment\, local culture\nand history of the towns along the scenic byway. From learning about the granite industry in Sullivan to\nlobstering in Gouldsboro\, each one provides an interactive and fun interpretive experience for kids and\nparents alike. Friday\, September 24 th \, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM\, the Masonic Lodge in Winter Harbor will be\nhosting a benefit spaghetti supper to support updating the Kids Quest Brochures. These pamphlets and\nmap provide essential information to get kids on their quest and help tourists and locals alike navigate\nto each stop along the route. Please stop by the Masonic Lodge\, 43\, School Street\, Winter Harbor\, from\n5:00 – 6:30 PM\, eat some food\, learn about the byway and support fun and learning in our region.
