I want to thank Robin at the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce for her help securing the location and helping organize the details for this conference. DESCRIPTION:The Downeast Business Boot Camp & Pitch-Off is a collaborative effort of resource partners in Washington and Hancock counties designed to encourage\, engage and create community for Downeast entrepreneurs.\n\nA six-day intensive (non-consecutive) training + prep program for early-stage business owners leading up to a final pitch for prize money. Young enterprises in operation from 1- 3 years will strengthen their business confidence in a collaborative atmosphere as they compete in a final judged pitch event. Each enterprise team will work with an assigned mentor to hone their business and presentation skills needed to grow a sustainable business. \nAny small business in Hancock or Washington county in operation for 1 – 3 years with less than 10 employees and a revenue cap of $500\,000. Six businesses will be chosen to participate with two participants from each enterprise. (Owner +1) \nThe Boot Camp culminates with a live online Pitch competition. A combination of cash and in-kind services will be awarded to two winners chosen by a panel of judges\, and one audience choice. This year’s festival features outdoor and virtual events and activities for adults\, children\, families and friends to explore Acadia in winter. \nOutdoor activities include a ski\, snowshoe\, or walk into the future of Schoodic Peninsula with Acadia National Park Superintendent Kevin Schneider and Schoodic Institute President and CEO Nick Fisichelli. Experience the magic of raku pottery with Schoodic Arts for All. Investigate animal tracks with Acadia National Park rangers\, and take a moss and lichen walk with Schoodic Institute Forest Ecology Director Peter Nelson. \nVirtual programs include a presentation by Acadia National Park rangers on Acadia’s Winter Ecology and a lecture on The Edge of Winter by Dr. Sarah Nelson\, Director of Research for the Appalachian Mountain Club\, who worked with collaborators to study 100 years of weather data and learn how the winter season is changing in Acadia and the surrounding region. Festival participants may also attend Nelson’s lecture in-person in Moore Auditorium\, and stay for dinner in Schooner Commons. \nWorkshops on campus include winter photography\, pine cone bird feeders\, needle-felting\, snow journaling with Karen Zimmerman\, and an iNaturalist citizen science workshop for the whole family. Join friends and neighbors for hot beverages and s’mores on Saturday afternoon\, and on Sunday watch the movie Togo in Moore Auditorium and then enjoy a closing Ice Cream Social. \nThe Winter Festival is an opportunity for the public to experience the Schoodic Institute Research Learning Center campus within Acadia National Park\, including meals and lodging.
