Here in Acadia\, we are dealing with hotter temperatures\, rising sea level\, and increasing storm frequency and intensity. \nDuring the lecture\, Director Sams and a panel of early-career science professionals will discuss some of the most pressing climate challenges in our national parks\, and the importance of Indigenous leadership and knowledge as well as conventional science to inform our response to ecological transformation. The panel will be moderated by Andrew Revkin\, environmental journalist and Director with the Earth Institute at Columbia University. \nThe Goldstein Lecture serves to convene and inspire on critical topics for parks\, people\, and the planet. The lecture is named in honor of Alan Goldstein\, an accomplished businessman\, philanthropist\, sailor\, and environmental advocate. We will first learn how to fuse layers of encaustic medium on cradled wooden boards\, then use colorful bleeding tissue paper to create luminous collages. We’ll then learn several techniques including scraping\, incising\, incorporating found objects (the lighter and thinner the better)\, and image transfers. For the brave\, we can set some of our paintings on fire.

One gets within close photo range of the puffins and terns of Petit Manan Island\, an active seabird-nesting colony. The second goes farther out on the expansive waters of the Gulf of Maine in search of whales and pelagic birds\, normally a five-hour excursion. Do our existing governance systems enable sound management of these activities in a way that balances conservation\, prosperity and sustainability? Mr. Anderson will share some lessons learned from his work over the years on bay management\, sustainable aquaculture and fisheries management and efforts to promote local voices and values in how we manage our common resources in the coastal zone. \nPaul Anderson is the Executive Director of Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries. DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the Spring MACCE conference May 3-5 at the beautiful Migis Lodge!  I want to thank Robin at the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce for her help securing the location and helping organize the details for this conference.  I would also like to thank Charter Communications for their full sponsorship of our conference\, and Maine Affordable Energy Coalition for their cocktail hour sponsorship. \nMy hard deadline for registrations has to be Tuesday\, April 19\, 2022 so please do not wait to register. New directors who have not yet attended a conference may attend on a scholarship.  For those folks and other directors needing a scholarship that information is below. \nAt this conference we will be hearing presentations from two Chamber Institute instructors\, Cathi Hight and Mike Gellman.  Cathi will be leading us through a discussion on governance issues and solutions\, and Mike will provide a good overview of financial considerations/information/lessons for Directors.  We are finalizing a few last details on the conference agenda\, see attached.  In addition the Institute instructors\, will also hear from the U.S. Chamber and our Maine partners\, have our ever-popular cracker barrel session\, and enjoy a peer panel discussion.  \nScholarships Available! \nNew directors who have not yet attended a conference may attend on a scholarship.
