Encaustic Painting

This class demystifies the ancient painting medium called encaustic, which uses hot beeswax and resin + pigments. We will first learn how to fuse layers of encaustic medium on cradled wooden boards, then use colorful bleeding tissue paper to create luminous collages. We’ll then learn several techniques including scraping, incising, incorporating found objects (the lighter and thinner the better), and image transfers. For the brave, we can set some of our paintings on fire.
